Sasha first announced to be transgender during high school. Those were difficult years however, Sasha believed that with the support of his family and the music that he was able to handle any situation. Jim and Sasha are both songwriters. Although The Voice coaches did not talk about Sasha's background, the duo as well as Jim discussed their journey to where they are today through a short introduction clip that was played before their show. The two talked about their music choices and how Sasha started playing guitar when he was at the age of six. The father of Sasha is a music instructor, making learning the art form easier for his. Sasha was a woman born in the United States and struggled to find his identity as a kid. In an Instagram post, he recently opened up about the struggles he faced.
